Maternity Benefits while overseas?

Hi,
I am currently on a long term assignment overseas (EC). My base contract remains in Ireland, and I make my pension and PRSI contributions in Ireland.
Overseas, I am paid a local wage and pay local taxes etc.
My wife is currently on maternity leave from her employment in Ireland. She is currently living with me overseas. We had a baby girl recently - she was born here (overseas). My question is, does she need to be "registered" in Ireland to ensure continuity of maternity leave benefits in Ireland? What is the best way to go about this?

thanks

If you are from an EU country, you can get Maternity Benefit for any period of your maternity leave spent in another EU country. You cannot receive payment if you are living outside the EU. If you are not an EU citizen you will only get Maternity Benefit as long as you remain in Ireland.

thanks for the response. We are both Irish citizens, currently living in the EU (outside Ireland). Does one need to inform the relative bodies I Ireland of the birth of our daughter. If so, who needs to be informed, and how is this usually done?

Not sure. If child was born in ireland, s/he would automatically be registered. i presume that the Maternity Section will need to be informed in a wee note or something but really don't know...sorry. Maybe write them and ask?
