Wondering if anyone can provide any insight for the following.
I have just recently been informed that my employer will not pay maternity benefit whilst I am on leave.
I will be paid the statuatory benefit of €280 per week.
My manager, has suggested that i could possibly resign and he would rehire me as a contractor for the duration of the pregnancy. Therefore I would be paid at a much higher rate, allowing me to save more in preparation for 6 months of receiving the state benefit.
If that were the case, I would be self employed. Would I still, therefore, be entitled to claim the state maternity benefit, and if so, would i receive the maximum amount?
Also, do you have to pay PAYE and PRSI on the state maternity benefit?
Thanks in advance.
