Married v Single - Taxation Implications

My girlfriend and I are assessing our financial problems at the moment due to her being made redundant last year and recent taxation increases.
I earn €55K per year (possible 70 if I get a bonus at the end of the year) and my girlfriend is receiving jobseekers allowance on the dole.
We had made a deliberate decision not to get married but now we are wondering if we would be financially better off if we got married.
Can anyone offer some advice on what the financial implications might be?
