Married Tax Credit & One Income

I wonder if someone could clarify something for me. My parents are married, and as my mother no longer works I’m just wondering is my father entitled to her tax credits? He is completely clueless and I just want to check this out for them. I know that he can’t claim for her PAYE credits but was just wondering. He is a PAYE worker and his personal tax credit is 3660.
Thanks DR

The basic tax credit for 2008 for married one income is €1830 each x 2 = €3,660 + his own PAYE credit €1,830 = €5,490. Cut off point is €44,400. This assumes your mother has no income at all in 2008. If there are any dependents at home he may be entitled to the €900 Home Carer Credit for her as a Home Carer. If in doubt ring the PAYE LoCall helpline at the number on his tax credit cert.

PS is a deiserebel someone born on the Cork Waterford border

Thanks for that Graham, it seems that he's being taxed correctly so (has 3660 tax credit plus the paye 1830). No dependents at home being taken care of so the homecarer t/c doesn't apply.
PS I'm a rebel, currently living in waterford hence the name!
