Hi, My wife has recently gone back to work for 1 day per week earning €76 per week. The shop has now closed down and she has been layed off.
My question is what tax is she liable for ? I claim the home carers tax credit of €900 so my understanding is she will pay 21% of all earnings in tax (41-20). Will she aslo be liable for the 2% levies. Can she claim any tax back from not working now ? Can she claim any welfare ? Thanks for any help, just a bit confused.

Your questions are confusing too.
You say she has recently returned to work - then you say she is laid off .
Now you want to know how much tax she is liable for ( and she is unemployed )

As a casual worker on € 76 per week , she would pay no tax , as she is entitled to her paye tax free allowance of € 9150 for 2009 .

On € 76 weekly , its unlikely , she would be asked to pay the levies or indeed , any prsi .

Welfare ? - Tell her to join the queue at her local dole office and bring her P60 and P45 with her . They will let her know if she can claim welfare , depending on her contributions to date .
