Hi all,

I hope you can give me some advice. My OH and I want to go on holidays next March for 7-10 days but at the moment we have no clue on where to go. We were originally planning on going to NYC but I think it is a little too expensive especially with my OH shopping habits

We are both 24 and in stressful positions and we are basically looking for a break away that won't cost a fortune.

Any ideas that you can give would be a great help.

Thanks in advance

Why not amsterdam or prague or a 'cheaper' european city! NY would be v expensive, u could book flights and accomm seperatly and would be cheaper, also, the trains etc are very cheap and u can travel around areas then! only a suggestion

Keep an eye out for Ryanair and Aer Lingus seat sales- I just booked flights to Brussels in November for €45 return, including taxes and charges.

If it's a relaxing break you want, why not head south? Good value and nice weather to be had in Portugal or Spain that time of year. For example, if you stay somewhere around the Costa Del Sol, you could rent a car and visit Granada, Alhambra, Seville... I head down there every September and it is a great place to be offseason. Having said that, I would avoid it like the plague from May to August...

Try to be flexible with your dates and have a look at Ryanair. I got a return flight to Prague last month for E28. It's a lovely city but the prices appear to be creeping up. Krakow is lovely and really cheap. New York isn't a cheap break. Flights are dear enough now with the fuel increases and don't forget about the state tax on almost everything you buy.

Last March got return flights to Malaga with Ryanair for €127.66 all in for two. Rented a one bed apartment in Marbella for €220 for the week. Buses to and from Marbella for two circa €16. All in all about €180 each for the week. The weather was absolutely fantastic about 22 degrees to 25 degrees.
There is a huge shopping centre in Puerto Banus, as big as any Macy's store that should satisfy your shopping habit.

Thanks very much for your input. My travel dates are flexible so I will keep an eye on Ryanair. You can get lucky from time to time I booked 1 week for 2 in Budapest in September for €100 (all inclusive return) so very happy with that.

I think Portugal, Spain or South of France may be a good idea.

Any other advice would be great.

Flew to Palma in Majorca with Ryanair for less than €200 for both of us in March. Stayed on beach about four miles from city centre in hotel (half board for €340 for the two, brilliant) and weather was okay. Plenty of shopping in Palma city which is just a walk or cycle away, bus costs €1.10. Worth a chance
