Right,
Have Paludrine tabs for India.....(proguanil is the one they are made of) but someone has told me I should also have got a second set of tablets...Avoclar. As my GP is a guy in his sixties and not into travel can anyone help me out here?
According to the US Govt. Center for Disease Control http://www.cdc.gov/travel/regionalmalaria/indianrg.htm - which is pretty authoritative on these things - you should be okay with Proguanil Malaria drugs in any risk areas in India - which is basically everywhere except the mountains. What you're not okay with in India is Chloroquine based drugs - as chloroquine resistance is widespread.
Malaria is a very serious and potentially fatal disease - so if you've any doubt at all I'd contact a specialist clinic like the Tropical Medical Bureau - I'd be fairly uncomfortable taking advice on this type of thing from non medical source ( like me )
Also remember it's always true that the most effective Malaria prevention is to avoid being bitten in the first place - so cover up / use repellent etc.
