I am in my 20's and pay pension in the public sector,I also have an AVC,however I am entitled to put away 15% of my salary into pension investments,is it possible to make my own AVC by taking this 15% myself and putting it into an investment fund like Davy's Equity Fund or do I have to go through a financial institute like the banks or Irish life?

I think that the only common way of managing your own pension fund is through a which are normally (always?) restricted to those who are self employed. I'm not aware of any other self administered pension options and reckon that the only option is to go with a normal PRSA, personal pension plan/Retirement Annuity Contract etc. Don't forget that to qualify for tax/PRSI relief your funds must be ringfenced off and only available to you at retirement and not just invested in a normal fund which could be encashed at any time. To obtain tax relief Revenue normally require a copy of relevant pension form (PRSA1, RAC etc.)
