Hi
Have a smoke alarm - recently fitted, its wired into the mains. I dont know what the brand name is - Cant see it written on it

A couple of times every day its giving off a chirping sound - it chirps twice and thats it

This happens a couple of times a day - during the day and at night. Happens randomly and doesnt seem to happen at the same time

Not sure why this happens

As said its wired into the mains, the back up battery on it is new and the light on the smoke alarm unit is green light

Thoughts re what could be wrong
Thanks

Something wrong with battery, either its not in properly or another smoke alarm has low battery....

the back up battery on it is new

Is it "new out of a packet" or new "one of the unused ones in that junk drawer" or even new "out of that remote control I just put one into recently".

I mention this because I had the same issue with a clock and it was only after returning the "faulty" clock that I realised the battery wasn't as brand new as I thought it was - the new clock had exactly the same problem, because I used the same battery. A brand new battery and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the replies

THe battery is the one that came with the smoke alarm and is new out of the packet

But as its mains connected should that make any difference - isnt the power coming from the mains and the batery only comes into play in a power outage which i havent had

Any other thoughts re what might be the problem

Thanks

I would check to see if the mains circuit has not tripped or become disconnected and it is running off the battery.

I would test the alarm using the button to see if it activates and to see if testing it resets the mode (perhaps it's been muted).

I would get a 2nd new battery and replace the 'new' one incase it was defective.

I was driven nuts by a low chirping in a similar smoke alarm which was also wired to the mains. In the end changing the battery fixed it.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions

None of the circuts had tripped

Alarm when tested is working

I changed the battery but same thing happened

Think its a faulty alarm at this stage and will get it changed

Thanks
