A friend who worked PT age retired end of Feb but it still awaiting payment of their lump sum from the pension providers. Any query is met with a request, first was copy of birth cert, now 10 days later its a vouched copy of passport. All they had was 14 years service, sum is very small. Latest is payment has to be dis invested by some account manager and this can take 7-10 days.

Payment may be made last week in March or first week in April.

They were contributing part of pension and company rest, fund is managed by ..

Is this normal? They got no instructions with the letter that outlined entitlements ie copy of birth cert reqd, copy of verified passport reqd.

I am not at all impressed.

The Pension Providers must ensure the claimant is bona -fide.
The Pension Providers probably never held the details of your friend.
The Pension Providers don,t look to verify bona-fides until the claim comes in , it is then they verify the claimant .

Requirements have changed through the decades , I would think any claim is verified on todays rules , not on claiming rules that were acceptable years ago.

Today is the 1st day of the last week in March so shouldn't be long now as they indicated.
