Hi

I have been made redundant and i am renting a property in london which is too expensive for my budget now that i am out of work. According to my contract, i cannot leave before june. Is there any law that allows me to cancel my contract with the landlord earlier without any penalty? i like to keep the few money that i own for the hard times ahead.

many thanks

Mandy

This is an Irish site and therefore any legal questions will not be capable of being answered if they relate to UK law. Perhaps try www.fool.co.uk or instead?

www.prtb.ie

Website for The Private Residential Tenancies Board gives notice periods for Landlords and Tenants.
The fact that you have a lease makes no difference as long as you give the correct notice period.
The notice period relates to length of time you have been renting the property.
You have to give the notice in writing.
This is in Ireland not sure about the UK.
