Just a bit of advice,
My esb meter is inside my house and as a result of having a five day week 9 to 5.30 job I am normally never in so my meter reading had not been read by an official meter reader in 5 years. When I would get the note in the door I would ring in a reading..no problems for many years.
In sept 07 I rang in a reading for the first time in quite a while and ESB owed me a large sum so I was in credit...wahay! The next 6 bills used upmost of my credit and then last Oct I rang in my reading again.. and was told I my estimates were way under the reading and the upshot was the last €300 credit was used up and I owed them a further €600
I was very confused but too busy to delve too deep and so I let it go, then the next est. bill was €400 and the actual reading seemed even higher so by now I was freaking out(as was my bank manager)...I tried to explain that something had to be wrong as there was no way I could be using these amount of units paerticularly as the greatest danger in my house is off tripping over in the dark as I live with a bit of an eco nut who turns off all the lights..however I got nowhere save into a rage with a very rude woman in customer service..
Eventually having monitored the bills till end may and actual usage from actual reading to actual reading I estimated my bills should be no more than €150 max every 2 months!! Armed with this information I braved customer service again and it turns out that I have a 5 digit meter and most newer meters are 6 digit and some genius in esb started taking my phoned in readings and applying them as if my meter had 6 digits. Now they owe me €1800!!
So if anyone is having strange readings or estimates check the type of meter you have!!!
