mach3 blades

Does anybody know how long a mach3 (I thing there called M3 nitro) blade is meant to last or how many shaves per blade. I currently have a packed of 8 that seem to only give me one or two good shaves at the max. After this the alo vera strip gets very rough and it gives a very uncomfortable shave and therefore thrown away. Is this normal or just a bad batch. When I used the normal mach 3 blades everything was fine. I will be going back to the normal one but was wondering if anybody had the same experience.

I use the normal ones but I shave with shaving oil instead of foam or gel and I think it prolongs the life of the strip

That about sums up my experience as well.

I think this is the main supermarket consumer area where men are vulnerable.

I've tried 'em all - Quattro-Sabre Ultra; Maximum Steel; Graphite Excel Plus...

(I made those up by the way)

Recently I've been using Aldi 16 (or maybe 24 pk) blades - Zero difference.

As far as I can see, as long as there is even some pretension of an aloe vera type strip thing you'll be OK.

It's funny to note that high-end razor blades are so expensive that some supermarkets have them security tagged! According to ripoff.ie (the FG consumer website), razor blades are 87% more expensive in Ireland than the UK!

I use a single-bladed safety razor with a brush and soap. But then I only shave about once a week and it is much handier for getting a long growth off (ooh-er).

I get about 15 shaves out of a mach 3. Even though the strip is worn away, I honestly can't say I notice much of a difference in the quality of the shave. In my opinion it's really just a marketing ploy to trick you into using more than you need.

It depends on how sensitive your skin is. IMO. Some people can get away with more shaves from the same blade others can't.

Apparently if you keep the head of the razor in shaving oil/Johnson's baby oil when not using it, it prolongs the life of the blade massively. I keep meaning to try it but haven't got around to it yet.

I think the quality of the blades has deteriorated over time...I used to get about a week out of one blade, now it's maybe 4 shaves.

They should last longer than 2 shaves. Once the strip wears away the shave isn't as comfortable even thought the blades are probably fine. Keep the razor as dry as possible seems to be the usual advice.

That ripoff.ie site isn't accurate, Gillette have a fairly uniform EU wide price. If they were as cheap as ripoff.ie thinks I'd be buying a couple years supply in Newry. Razors are so small, transportable and high value that a signifigant price discrepancy would create a grey market.

Unfortunately it is accurate...Mach 3 blades are far cheaper in Portugal

Oh really?

There is a significant grey market and a market in fakes.

I can't believe that the mach3 turbo blades are 'designed' to only last a week!

The Mach 5 will be out in time for Christmas maybe that will do the job better and the blades will last half as long at double the price.
