I've just got a message from Windows Internet Explorer on my pc saying that errors have been detected & I should run "Performance Optimizer".

I've never seen this before - can anyone confirm whether or not it's genuine, before I run it?

Thanks in advance, and please excuse my IT ignorance!

It sounds like a pop-up, if you choose to run it it will possibly install something on your pc you dont want. Run a virus check and spyware cleaner if you have already said yes to this message.

Thanks Jimmy - I didn't say yes, but I'll run the virus check etc. just to be sure!

Yep , its a scam/virus.... avoid at all cost...

If you are not already using IE7 you should consider upgrading. Or using Firefox. Both have much better malware/popup protection mechanisms or options than IE6.

We are getting the same pop-up message on one profile using IE7.

I've only recently upgraded to IE7 funnily enough...

I very rarely, if ever, get unapproved popups with Firefox. I can't remember if I installed any additional extensions or tweaked any settings for popup blocking.

Some of them are graphics on web pages made up to look like genuine security alerts from your PC.

Yes-this is one of the 'better' ones.

We run 2 profiles on our laptop. One of us predominately uses Firefox with no problems. This issue has been happening with IE7.
