Luke Warm rads - OFCH - 1 tank in attic

Hi Guys,
I hope all finds you well. We have ofch, and in our area the water pressure is so low that there is no water going into the tank upstairs.

Last night we noticed the radiators were hardly on, despite the fact we had the heat on for an hour. We checked the attic, there is one tank. So we put about 4 large buckets of water in the tank. We turned on the heat, and there is an improvement, but not much. The rads are warm on top and cold at the bottom.... Would any one have any ideas of what could be the issue....

To answer your question I need to ask questions........sorry.

You onlly have one big tank?
What is the make and model of boiler?
Is there a pressure gauge on boiler, if so what does it read?
 
Hi Davy, I dont have some of the answers now as I am in work.
Mr Bear checked the attic last night and could only see one big tank. Where would I see a pressure guage on the boiler? I'll have a look this pm and will answer what you have asked..

I don't know the answer to your question but AFAIK the water in the boiler /rads is separate from the water that comes from your taps ie the fact that you have no water in your header tank in the attic shouldn't affect your rads.
 
hi there, I have more information, I went up to the attic myself. There are two tanks (apologies Mr Bear - gave me the info yesterday), one large tank and then a smaller tank on top. These are connected via pipes.
The larger tank is full, and there is water in the smaller of the two tanks.
The Boiler make is Riello Burners, The Gauge says 60.

We have the heat on, however there is no heat from the Rads, Mr Bear is currently bleeding them now...

I forgot to get you the model number - I'll post that in a few minutes....

i am not sure if I have gotten the model number, so I took down all the numbers I could see!!

On the Boiler there is a label with the following info,
N. 04194020706
Type : 43771
Cod: 37437...

I am not sure if any of these are of use to you????

the small tank feeds your heating system.

Wiggle ballcock, it may be stuck. If it doesn't free out, it will need to be replaced.

If you can't free it out, get a pot and head back to attic. Use pot to take water from big tank and fill small tank, bleed rads and repeat.

Once tank is full, keep an eye on the water level over a few days (assuming ballcok isn't filling it) you may have a leak on system.
 
One thing I did notice was the small tank was not full. The rads seem to be fine - no air in them but loads of water..

afaik the small tank is NOT required to be FULL, it just needs to keep a small amount of water in it, maybe 2" or 3" I'm just guessing but i think I read that somewhere. Room has to be left for expansion (me thinks)
 
Hi there, Just down from attic now, we wiggled ballcock, and all seems to be OK, we held it down and let the tank fill up a bit (we filled it up to a water line).. have the heat back - will update you guys with the next installment of "the luke warm radiators"...
