LRC case + Solicitors costs

Hi all, I have just received my award from an LRC hearing on an unfair dismissals case I won. My solicitor has now hit me with what seems a huge bill for a relatively straight forward case.

I never received a section 68 and when I queried fees in the first meeting I was told not to worry it would not be a major factor. I had 5 meetings in total with solicitor (including the LRC hearing) and one letter (the notification from the LRC of hearing date). I queried costs at another meeting and she said she'd get back to me. To be honest I was terrified that putting pressure on her would jeopardise my case as she wasn't the most proactive as it was so I persevered.

The fee is over 2000 euro. Do people feel this is justified?.

Thank you.

Well done on winning your case. How does the cost compare to the award? Did they not give you some idea on costs before hand? I thought they had to?

No

No they gave me no idea of costs at all. As I say I asked twice and it was waved away.

It's slightly higher than 10%

Thank you

An unfair dismissal claim takes some time, energy and knowledge to investigate, prepare and present.

€2,000 seems reasonable.
