In a friends area, bungalows are in band 100-150k, while detached houses are 150-250k?

How has revenue calculated this, as a lot of the bungalows in the lower bracket are very big and larger than the detached houses and most probably worth much the same.

The figure on the letters are irrelevant though, unless the property owners in question are intending on not filing a return?

But, if for instance the detached house owner feels his/her house is worth the same as the equivalent bungalow, and sends in the self declaration as band B are they open to be interrogated by the revenue.

The documentation from Revenue specifically says that the figure on the letter is not a valuation of anyone's specific property - it's a very broad based estimate.

It's up to individuals to make their own honest assessment of the valuation of their property. 7 or 8 years ago everyone in the country was a property valuation expert, now all of a sudden everyone is bereft.
