lost/stolen p60

Hi all. My husband has lost his p60 and two current payslips. He also thinks they may have been taken from his back pocket by someone who thought it was his wages. He told his employer about it and he told him to report it to his local garda station as the p60 contains sensitive and personal information and as there was also two payslips maybe the info could be used for obtaining credit card etc. Can anyone advise what to do? Thanks.

To be on the safe side Report it to the Guards and get a Pulse incident? number for it. This means that the Garda will have to enter it into the computer system instead of just making sucking noises. But for you it means there is a proper record encase something does happen with the documents.

The moral of the story is that back pockets are not for storing money or important documents.


BTW: His employer is not supposed to issue him with a replacement P60, it is his loss.

It may be the case that whoever took it threw it out once they saw that there was no money included, or that your husband just dropped it. A bank account or credit card could not be obtained without a bank statement anyway so it is not a major worry. Just in case, keep a close eye on any bank statements you are due to receive and store them safely.
Having notified the Gardaí in advance, you should be in a better position to resolve any identity theft issues, unlikely though they are.

Employers will usually re-issue one on request, and it is essential for your own records and for completing a tax return.

Cheers for the replies. You have put my mind at rest. Getting a copy of the p60 from the employer is not a problem. Will certainly report it to the garda now.

In case you get the brush off at your local station I would inclined to put it in writing and ask for a pulse number and this ensures you have it documented.

Have reported it to garda who were very helpful so hopefully nothing more comes from this. Again thanks to everyone who replied.

What a waste of garda resource for a P60 that your husband have or may have simply lost himself.
