Hi all...5 weeks ago i seen a well know music sshop advertise amps on a certain sell sight,i went into the shop on the 13th of may and bought an amp, last week iit gave me some serious trouble and just doesnt work,i emailed the shop and explaind i lost my receipt but the guy should remember me as he went through some phone calls to confirm that the amp was for sale at a knock down price, this is there reply

"Unfortunately we will need a receipt. This has nothing to do with us believing you as this is not in question. Unfortunately when an amp comes back for repair under warranty the manufacturer pays for the repairs under the terms of the warranty & therefor we need to be able to show Marshall your receipt in order for them to authorise the repair. If you can find it we can get the amp take care of extremely quickly & efficiantly

now does this mean im facing a repair bill,or is there anything i can do,i accept that i lost the receipt,so if theres nothing can be done ill take it on the chin..cheers

Go in person and see if the assistant will do something for you. Anyone can chance their arm by sending an email and seeing what the reaction would be.

hi elcato,i understand what you say but the manager in question 100 percen t remembers who i am,and infact genuine,as we talked about the deal on another site other than the shops, hes stated that..but i will defo go in and see if it makes a differance, but i very much doubt it,id say the fact my dopey brain lost the reciept has me up no mans creek,i was just thinking though maybe the fact the amp had a serial number or such might have made a differance...cheers elcato

Did you pay by card/cheque? If so this will suffice as proof of purchase.

Marion i didnt ,i repled to an add on the 11th on a certain site, then on sunday the 13th i went in and bought the amp,im not trying to get bully with the shop or anything,if it means tough that i lost the receipt well more fool me,but id have thought that the shop would be able to go back to that date and see that infact the amp was bought,as it would have been the only one sold that day,but hey maybe im wrong,no receipt mt tuff id say??

Hi Marcus M

Your best bet at this stage then is visit the shop as Elcato suggested earlier and make your case and hope for the best.

They may well decide to make a goodwill gesture.

ok seems like that could well be the best way, thank you and Elcato for you time in sharing information, the feedback is of great help, cheers

I think that the shop is being thick with you on this. As you have stated you are known to the manager and the transaction was recorded. I have had a similar experience with a local store, who simply, as you suggest, checked their records for the day and see that I bought the items. The shop keeps such records and I really think they are being difficult. Plus you have been sold a product which is not fit for purpose "it does not work", there is some obligation to help you in a better way other than cough up more to have it repaired or some other silly excuse. What happened to service.

Go in and ask for a reprint of the receipt. Acknowledge that it is your mistake to have lost it but that you want a solution. Tell them if they do not give you the reprint you will have to go on the Q102 consumer affairs show to ask for advice and that will make their shop look very bad.

Good suggestion. My sister used Joe Duffy as a threat a number of times when in genuine distress about poor customer service, it works.

He sent an email into them. That email could be from anyone ready to see if they are mugish enough to accept a story. If he arrives in person at least they can establish whether he is genuinely a customer. If they refuse after going in to the shop in person and talking to the people there then perhaps your points could be valid.
