Lorry hire and Travel to UK

I'm living in the UK but coming home early next year. I need to hire a lorry to bring home my stuff (removal company charges are exhorbirant)
I've a friend in Cork who drives lorries so i guess it would be easier for him to rent one there and come across for the stuff.
Anyone recommend/know where i can hire from?

I know someone who hired a 20ft crate in Germany from Ireland to bring all his stuff back and delievered to his front door for €1k. He shared it with someone else who was coming back and who lived near him.
Dropped at his front door one morning in Germany, he filled it, they collected it and rang him about 2 weeks later in Ireland and dropped it at his door
