I have an account in BOI in the North but I live in Dublin. I have a Sterling cheque that I want to lodge but don't want to go all the way up. Do banks in general, accept lodgments by post? I have a lodgment book so can complete a docket to send with it. Thanks

That will be no problem.

I send lodgments by post to the north on a weekly basis and never have any issues.

No. Just fill in the lodgment slip and out your phone number on it in case of any discrepency.
Also, it is a good idea to keep a record of the cheques and amounts if there is more than one.

We sent cheques to the TSB to lodge, and they lost them. They weren't interested in following it up either - their word against ours.

We'd never post lodgements now.

OK thanks folks, I suppose an idea might be for me to send it by registered post.

We sent the cheques by registered post, and got confirmation of delivery.
The bank even took action on one of the items in the letter. It didn't stop them losing the cheques though.

If you have absolutely no other choice but to post, then at least photocopy the cheques.
