Loans -Vs- Gifts

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could point me toward where I can find more information on the implications of receiving money from a relative as a loan. I know that Revenue views it as a Gift but can it be re-classified etc if you produce evidence that it is a loan?

Loan or gift?

Which is it? is it a loan or a gift? Are you expected to pay it back? If yes, there is you answer.

Unless - Is it a gift for lending institution ( i.e. does not reduce borrowing capacity?) but a loan for Revenue ( and therefore not a taxable gift?)

Can't have it every way.
