Lino on top of lino or take up existing floor covering?

I got a marmoleum floor in my kitchen many years ago. This is glued to the cement floor. At the time I had a design cut in to the lino but over the years this became loose in places and part of the design "lifted". However it was an easy enough job to put a bit of glue on the back of the loose piece and stick it back down.
We are now thinking of putting down a new Rhino Lino type flooring. Would it be possible to place this over the existing marmoleum floor or will I need to take up the old floor covering?
Two things worry me about this. Firstly the original cement surface of my kitchen floor is slightly pockmarket in places. You can actually see this through the marmoleum covering. Secondly. If I take up the original flooring that is glued to the ground I imagine that I will be taking not only the marmoleum up but also some of the cement/screed will lift as well. I really want to avoid having a new screed put on top of the cement floor.
The idea of using the existing floor covering as a base for the new covering seems a good idea. Is it?
