Hi all - I have a Linksys WRT54G router which I had secured with (I think) WEP encryption. It's been working away grand for over a year, but a few days ago I couldn't connect at all so I rebooted it. When I turned it back on it was unsecured i.e. it somehow managed to lose the security settings so it's now wide open. I tried to reset the security by going to http://192.168.1.1/ (http://192.168.1.1) and entering admin / admin. The router security page is all screwed up for some reason, there's no links or text appearing on the page. I've uploaded a pic of the home page here:

How might this have happened - could someone from outside have gotten to the home page and reset the security? Does anyone know how I can secure it again, or why the admin page is screwed up?

Cheers,
Ciaran.

You mean this modem/router had never been turned off for a year?

Did you try rebooting again?

If that doesn't work, most modems have a factory reset button somewhere. But you'd need to have your settings to hand so you can re-enter them. Contact your ISP if you don't have this information.

Power off the device, hold the reset button, apply power, after about 20secs, release the reset button..

Apply WPA instead of WEP

WEP can be cracked easily enough if someone wanted, there loads of tutorial vids about this out there, but probably not this here, really looks like it lost its settings which happened me once.

who's your ISP? Ive got that 54g as well, its a few minutes admin to reset the security info.

1. change the default password on the router,
2. set your wireless settings, use WPA.
3. Turn on firewall.
4. When you get on to web, download the latest firmware from linksys support site and install.
