Hi,

I'm in the process of getting a mortgage with EBS and the life cover they are quoting me is around €75 a month. Is this the normal rate as I think it's a bit steep? Any suggestions of the best priced cover?

Thanks

It's impossible to say whether it's too dear or not because your query is too vague. Get an alternative quote from the likes of labrokers, who often discount the first years premium or tesco finance.

Your monthly premium depends on a number of factors including a) type of policy b) term c) additional benefits d) sum assured and personal information including a) age b) health c) family history d) occupation

Depending on your own personal circumstances, the cheapest type of life cover is usually basic mortgage protection. I'd recommend you shop around for some quotes in order to obtain the best quote available.

Put it like this..i got mortgage protection a few weeks ago..im a smoker mid 20s and its €21/month. €75 seems like an awful lot!

i found 123.ie to be the cheapest and then i got ebs to match the rate and the (we pay half your first year) offer. on Mortage protection and house insurance

Don't forget to check www.labrokers.ie i think is correct name of site and quote 'askaboutmoney' for extra discount with promotional code or www.monitum.com who are similar- offering commission back, etc

Used both in past and found staff with them particularly friendly and helpful

Hi,

I just arranged my life assurance today and it is going to cost me 70.00 for full life & serious illness cover. This will cover a) my entire mortgage and b) in the event of a serious illness it will give me an extra lump sum of 100K.

The option to pay only 20Euro was there but it doesn't really cover you for anything in the event of an accident and not being able to work.

B1311. Double check you are covered for all you think you are? You mention life assurance with serious illness cover and accident and not being able to work.

basic mortgage protection is quite cheap as it only covers death and is the basic legal requirement . im 25 non smoker and 185k mortgage protection is about 21 . i think

i also took out 50k life and serious illness cover about 2 yrs ago and that costs me about 30 euro

i have income protection threw work but it can be expensive as it covers you until you retire. but if you dont have it can you afford to live on long term illness benefit ?

becareful to check if they cover just your job or all jobs - i.e. if you couldnt do your job but could do something else would they pay out ?and also the amount of time that would pass before they will pay you

It's pointless people saying what it cost them as it varies hugely by age, sex, smoker status, value of mortgage, whether it is life only or with serious illness, whether it is level or decreasing cover,

best just go on to 123.ie or one of the others

anyone know anywhere that is doing a good deal for Life assurance - to cover mortgage. Mine has expired and been quoted 800 for 400k mortgage.

In my experience i got a good deal with labrokers, I just got basic mortgage protection for the moment, although i have a heap of medical conditions, so its costing about 80 euro a month :( but with the first years discount the whole year is costing 90 euro . It still worked out cheaper than EBS ( they go thru Irish life ) . The cheapest quote through labrokers was with Zurich .

Also , my house insurance through EBS ( who use allianz ) was 42 a month .... I went directly to allianz and its 22 a month ...... EBS said there was nothing they could do ......hmmmm
