Life assurance query

Just a quick question. I have applied for life assurance about a week or so ago. This is to cover the duration of my mortgage. My question is that I got a quote, filled out the forms and sent them off. Then last Tuesday I was told that I had kidney stones. I had to go into hospital and have a small procedure. I was kept in for one night only. I sent the forms off before this happened. Do I need to inform them of this minor procedure or would kidney stone removal be considered as an actual operation. Will they increase my premium? Any advice would be appreciated

Check the policy terms & conditions. You may or may not have to divulge this matter.

I would let them know. Its not likely to have any effect on your policy particularly if you have just applied for mortgage protection.

If you have applied for a different policy, you may also have ticked no a box asking if you had hospital visits which isn't strictly accurate. If the company look for medical records, your doctor may include information about the recent operation.

It is better to tell them everything as non disclosure can invalidate a policy.

I'd suggest writing a short note detailing your op. so they will have it on file.

Have to tell them. When you get accepted for the life cover, there is usually a line in it saying you must advise company of any change since application which would apply in your case. Probably wont make a bit of difference to the policy but could make a hell of a difference if there was ever a claim. Even if acceptance doesnt say it I would still tell them, no point invalidating your policy needlessly.

You do need to inform the insurance company, you have a continuous duty of disclosure up until the commencement date of the policy. The company might ask you for further details regarding the kidney stones, perhaps via an additional questionnaire to complete. However kidney stones are quite common so may not affect your premium, however the insurance company you are dealing with would be best able to advise you on this.
