Lexus ....good buy?

Have you looked at 3 series beemer ideally 320d is the machine you want,it will knock spots of any lexus/audi/honda diesel.You might have to look at 06 models,plenty available but take your time and get one that checks out as they can suffer a hard life and are expensive if you have problems.The performance of the lexus is disappointing,overall space is lacking but if your after reliability the Lexus wont disappoint.
 
Lexus is a nice car you need to use the gearbox a lot to get 40 plus MPG
Plenty of power but not as good in many respects as a BMW 320d.
However there are not as many IS220d's on the road and they do not have the "stigma" that the BMW has and if you want something a bit different the IS will provide that.
Equipment levels of the Lexus are much higher then the BMW as well.

The price is not bad.

Lexus always seem to come up well in reliabilty reports.

As mentioned Bmw's are common as muck Lexus not so many on the roads and a nice looking car.
 
Dont want to put people off - they are lovely cars
.....let's just say you could just have a few bob(obviously) but don't officially work
 
And crappy mercs with oversized alloys!!! Didn't know they had migrated to Lexus,poor Lexus,they've now become the Burberry of the automotive world.
 
In light of OP question and subsequent replies, basically you have a choice then of:

Lexus - a Toyota in a pretty frock
Audi - a VW in a pretty frock
BMW - a BMW hijacked by the Celtic Tiger nouveau riche, and the peaked cap brigade who put gold alloys on them

If you give some more detail on your tastes etc then we could help more because the Lexus is a great car, just depends on what you want from your driving experience
 
IS220D is a good enough car. Well engineered and built, and reliable too.

I've found the engine to be a bit rough tbh.
