HI There,

Has anyone else had the experience of having just started a new job when they were looking for a mortgage? Is is just a case of getting a letter from your employer to say that you are permanent and have job security? We are literally in new jobs for just a few weeks as we've been travelling. My boyfriend called a broker who said we should wait a few months....but time is money and all the rest!

NO, I am in my job three weeks and my boyfriend is just about to start his. Have we no chance then?

This is not strictly true. There may be a a possibility of getting approval anyhow if you have good savings records and can show bank statements etc from your previous country of residence i.e if you can show bank statements with regular income of an appropriate amount coming into your account. Additionally if you could get parental guarantors and whatever letters you can assuring your permanent employment status from your employees. If either of you is a professional i.e. medical, legal, accountancy, teaching etc it may help your chances. However it may still be a long shot!

Hi there,

myself and my boyfriend arrived home in September 2003 after a year in Australia and managed to secure a mortgage by the end of 2003 while both still under probation in permanent jobs so it's definitely doable (although we did have some savings...)
