let go before apprenticeship is complete

What is the position with regard to somebody who was working as a fas apprentice. Due to downtturn he has been let go, prior to getting his qualification (level 6 , I think) Is he entitled to any redundancy etc?
Also, any update on how he might be able to complete his experience so that he ca get qualified? He was doing carpentry, and it seems such a waste of 3 years, if he cant get chance to complete. Any advice greatly appreciated.

FAS have reduntant apprentice scheme which places apprentices with other employers so that they get to their phase 7. He will get it done, maybe a slower, see link for more information
