I joined and worked originally 9 years for the main company (in Japan) and transferred internally over to the Irish office (head office in UK for Europe) 5 years ago. Recently I got a letter from the HR dept. stating that I had only 5 years length of service. Apparently they don't recognise my length of service in Japan, as its considered a seperate company.

Do I have a case for insisting that my length of service (for redundancy purposes) include the original 9 years in Japan?
All inputs are welcome especially where someone has faced a similar situation.
