Legacy of the Eircom IPO . How do I calculate my losses or gains?

I bought Eircom shares during the original IPO and ended up with a few thousand Euro worth of Vodafone shares.
I'm happier to hold them as a tangible asset than to hold money on deposit etc but the problem is I'm not sure how to proceed capital gains tax wise when I do decide to sell them.

I guess the best way to begin is by asking the question :Have original investors recovered any of our losses ? Have we broke even or are we still carrying losses forward? If we have made nothing then I assume that everything can be sold without worrying about capital gains tax.

Under the scenario that we have made a tiny sum, how do we calculate it ? Is there a simple way of calculating the tax owed per share if they were sold ? Is the legacy of one share of Eircom ( calculated in Vodafone shares) worth more or worth less than the purchase price if held onto since the original IPO ?
