With the world now facing up to the twin challenges of climate change and security of energy supply, the need for Ireland to take swift and decisive action on both fronts is in sharp focus. At the moment, all oil and coal and over 90% of gas is imported to Ireland. As 55% of all electricity consumption in Ireland is dependent on gas, challenges in the security of energy reserves will be discussed.

Declan Murphy is founder and CEO of The Ecology Foundation. He is an Electronic Engineer from the University of Limerick with substantial experience launching successful businesses in the IT, environmental and healthcare sectors, including Forest Healthcare and Rexco Solar Global. Declan is a member of the Irish Government High-Level Group on Green Enterprise, advises the UK Dept for Business Innovation & Skills, and has formerly been an advisor to Greenpeace UK.

The Ecology Foundation is one of Ireland's leading climate change advisory group. The Foundation is a not for profit programme and advises several governments and a broad range of significant businesses. The Foundation is an active project incubator for green energy and green tech developments.
