Hi,

I am going on a 9 month round the world trip in November, when my employers found out they gave me a months notice, so I will be finishing up work on the 4th September.

Im looking for other work to keep me going until I head away but was wondering if I ahve no luck finding other work can claim Jobseekers benefit from Sept - Nov?

PRSI contributions are not a problem - been working for 13 years.

Do you really fancy your chances of an employer taking you on for 12 weeks and holding a position open for you for 9 months?
Good luck with that one.

You must be available for work and actively looking for work to qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit. You may be asked to show evidence that you are actively seeking work. For example, letters showing job applications or failure to get a job.

Apply on the first day you become unemployed because you will not get paid for the first three days of your claim.

To qualify for Jobseeker's Benefit you must:
  • Be unemployed (you must be fully unemployed or unemployed for at least 3 days in 6)
  • Be under 66 years of age
  • Have enough social insurance (PRSI) contributions
  • Be capable of work
  • Be available for and genuinely seeking work.
  • Have a substantial loss of employment and as a result be unemployed for at least 3 days in 6.
Enjoy your holiday...and don't forget to cancel you're claim before you go.

Eh no Im not that naive that I expect to get a new job that will give me 9 months holidays! I was thinking more along the lines of temping for the 8 weeks before I go

Thanks for the advice, as far as I can see I will be able to fulfill those conditions. Dont worry if I do get JB I certainly will cancel it when I go away!
