Recently spent roughly 2.5 grand on a leather sofa from a well known furniture retailer. any way during yesterday noticed a rip on the seat. Now it's not a cut but a rip, the product detail says it shouldn't rip. Rang shop they are sending a technician down from Northern Ireland to have a look. What can I expect this guy to do , replace the whole chair or do a patch up job? Anybody have any previous experinces ? Am I within my rights to demand a new one rather than having a patch up job done ?

Don't know about Ireland, but here in England there is an organisation called "Furniture Industry Research Eastablishment".

We bought some "Stressless" chairs and sofa in leather (total cost £4000 (stg) only to find problems with the leather and with the recline mechanism on the sofa.

We contacted the supplier who got hold of FIRE who sent a guy out to inspect. He agreed that the kit was faulty and the supplier arranged for replacements; unfortunately there was in a difference in colour between the original and replacement so we sent it alll back and got our money back. The shop wanted us to accept a £500 reduction and keep the replacement, but she who must be obeyed said no.

We are still looking for comparable quality, in terms of comfort, and live in hope of finding it!

If you google on FIRE ( using the full name) you may find something similar over there.

Good luck.
