Lease agreement - acceptable witness

Hi,
I have a rental property where the lease (one year lease) is up for renewal.
I would like to confirm if it is a legal requirement to have both parties signature be witnessed or is it just best practice.

Last year, my tenant had their signature witnessed but I didn't have mine witnessed - would this have invalidated the lease? Or, would their signature being witnessed have been sufficient to bound them to the lease terms?

Would my adult son or sister-in-law be acceptable?

If not, can a Garda witness the signature like they have done for me for other documents e.g. passport applications.

Anyone can witness. You don't need a Garda.

And it's best practice to have a signature witnessed .

Your tenant's signature on the Lease, even if not witnessed, would be sufficient for them to be bound by the terms of the Lease.

I couldn't find anything on google that would confirm it was a legal requirement or not

I was worried that a relative might be deemed not to be "independent" and that would invalidate the lease, but I was reluctant to get a third party involved
