LCD or Plasma TVS

Parents are looking to get a new TV, not sure what kind of TV to get but want a flat screen. Mother has heard that Plasmas use alot more electricity then a LCD TV is this true?

Actually itd be hard NOT to buy a flat screen these days, went to Power City recently to price for a new tv and discovered that they only had around 7 or 8 tvs that werent flat screen, the days of the CRT tv are gone i think.

What exactly is the difference between the plasma and lcd screen tvs?
 
Plasma's use a little more power than LCDs, but both use considerable less than CRTs.
