Health Insurance Laya Simplicity increase 25% renewal 1st November, how is this so?

They have an asterisk on that but no footnote that I can see explaining it...



How is such an offer allowed if health insurance companies can't (as far as I know) offer discounts on policies to selected customers otherwise?

Edit: oh, I guess that this is the footnote even if there's no asterisk?
 
I certainly missed that and I think it's a bit of a cheap shot offering a discount for such a short period. Most of us have no choice on when to renew and for me Simplicity will be definitely back in the game!
 

Agree - would not be surprised if they extend it. Surely it only makes sense for them to offer it to all new customers or customers who switch
 
Yes, but why are they causing confusion already on pricing?
One of their big selling points is/was transparency, with just 4 plans.

Well, plan A + (plan B x 3 excesses x day to day option) + (plan C x day to day option) + plan D is effectively 10 plans...

As far as I can recall VHI allowed customers do a change on their renewals a few years back tied into a price increase so they have a very large number of their policies falling due in January. If lots and lots of VHI customers were to move and get a 10% discount that could cost a lot of €

Yes it was me who raised that point earlier in the thread and I feel it may well be finishing on 1st December because so many people may move in January from VHI which could cost Level Health a lot more in allowing the 10%.

Sorry I thought you meant VHI will lost a lot from people switching, not Level Health from more availing of the discount - my error, apologies!

TBF they are easier to understand: the B plans are easy to understand based on the excess levels, and the day to day could be seen as an add on module to the base plan. The copayments are spelled out in monetary terms and not 20% shortfall etc
 
Thanks for the comments re Simplicity equivalents. I'm a bit slow to start chasing introductory discounts.
Plan D V's Simplicity Simplicity is cheaper in every category except children under 18.
Plan C (DtoD) Vs Simplicity. Plan C (DtoD) is cheaper but there are €2,000 orthopaedic co-pay and a €400 ophthalmic co-pay on specified procedures.
 
I seem to remember the government giving the car insurance industry a wrapping on the knuckles for price gouging, I think the same knuckle wrapping is due for the health insurance sector. My premium up 25% on last year too with excesses increased - Simply Connect 2,262
