Lawnmower for sale in Chadwicks
Hi all, after a good bit of research, I bought this lawnmower in Chadwicks, Does it look like a good deal? I priced one with sililar spec in local place and it was €590.

It's the one on page 2 for €269...only thing that's bothering me is I never heard of the make...I think its "Bob's".
Any replies welcome.

Hi, Seems like a good one to me... good engine make on it...good price - what size garden do you need to cut? Wouldn't worry too much about the "name" of the lawnmower, you don't have to call it "Bob" :) Engine make is the main thing...with Briggs & Stratton you can't go wrong...

To be honest, there shouldn't be much go wrong with a lawnmower once you clean it regularly and service it every season. It'll cost you around €70 to get it serviced every season, or you could do it yourself if you are able to... there isn't much needed to change the filters & change the oil...

Happy mowing... and when cutting grass... try not to take more that one third off the length at any one cut... regular cuts, taking small bit off each time...

Don't know the size but have 3 separate lawns...takes under an hour to do the 3, so not too bad. Only one small problem, it kept getting stuck....I had the height at level 3 (ie the middle) And in certain areas where there might have been a bump, it would get stuck and the back wheels stay spinning. Maybe level 3 is still too low?

Hi,

Ideally, you should cut at the highest level all around the 3 areas... It may not take much off initially, but it will get the grass at the same height.

When you say "bump", do you mean that the ground in bumpy? or is the grass growing in "clumps"? If you had a pic, might make things easier to see...

So, I would recommend, cut at the highest setting for the moment, gradually dropping the cutting level over a period of weeks. You shouldn't drop it to the lowest level as your grass may not be healthy enough for such short cuts.

If you've already bought it, there isn't much point in discussing if its a good one. As its a steel deck I would advise cleaning down the deck and underneath from grass after use. It will make it last longer and grass will move through it better then next time you cut.

Thanks for the replies. By bumps, I mean a bump sticking up and lawnmower gets stuck on it. As regards cleaning the underneath, how do I do this? I read that the lawnmower should never be tilted on its side, so what do I do?

Just when cleaning the underneath of it, make sure that the petrol level is very low or even empty. Just tilting a bit to get at the underneath isn't going to cause any issues...just be aware of leaks.. alternatively, get it propped up so you can work underneath it... just be careful that it's securely fastened...

When I used to have a petrol mower I used to lift it up on two work stools. That may not be an option for you though. So as Jazzy says.

As for the bumps, maybe level them if this is something your going to be doing a lot. Or just cut higher.
