Hi,

I bought a lawnmower in Argos in october its a rotary one, I only used it about 6 times but it broke at the weekend and it's no good anymore. I haven't rang Argos as I don't want to go there demanding a new one just incase I am not entitled to it!! Am I entitled to a replacement??

Normally you would be entitled to a repacement, repair or refund if something goes wrong in the first 12 months after purchase. However, if you don't have the receipt then I can't see how Argos would know when or where you bought it. If you do have a receipt then generally Argos are exceptionally good at replacing / refunding faulty goods with no quibble (no connection - I've just been buying stuff there for years). The motto of the story is to keep all receipts for 12 months.

You do not necessarily need a receipt to prove you bought it there - a credit card or bank statement with details of the transaction is also proof.

Of course, if you bought it for cash, you do have a problem . . .

If you did buy with cash but have any packaging or the user manual that includes the Argos catalogue number on it then they might accept that as evidence that you bought it from them. Maybe the item itself has a sticker with the Argos number on it? What exactly broke and was this because it was faulty or because of misuse?

I don't have the packaging but looked through old credit card bills online and saw a credit card bill but i would say I bought more than 1 item cause the amount is for 120 and I think the lawnmower was about 70. I think there will be no problem proving its from Argos as its not a well known brand and I haven't seen it anywhere its a Qualcast. I have only used it about 6 times so it wasn't any excessive use, obviously Argos don't have to believe me. I just don't think it was a very strong lawnmower I will call in to them today and see if they are understanding!!

Your credit card records should be sufficient even if you bought more than one item. As mentioned above Argos are generally pretty good about exchanging/refunding items. As far as I know Qualcast is a very common brand on sale in lots of other outlets. I think we got ours in one of the DIY warehouse stores.

Argos could probably generate a new reciept from the credit card details. They are pretty good like that in my experience.

no haven't done it yet have been away but definitely this week! will keep you posted!
