New lawn laid last summer. Coming along well enough. Was really green til I started cutting it about 6 weeks ago. Now had a couple of cuts and although growing has lost the lush green look. Any suggestions best feed to give it? A lot on the market seem to incorporate weed killers which I know I should avoid at this stage with developing lawn. Ground poor enough drainage..... Done some work on this but site is filled and in area of boggy land so will never be perfect. Just wondering if I should go for anything specific or just good old 10-10-20 or suchlike. Thanks
Hi - weedkiller shouldn't affect it is it's gone through a "winter" season... but to be honest, I would leave it for a while & let it develop again itself.
Did you cut much off at the last cut? for the next few cuts, keep the cut at the same level to encourage the growth & take up the clippings each time...
After about 4-6 weeks, you can add some fertiliser - just spread lightly & make sure you water after 3 days if no rain has fallen...
I sowed new grasseed last year and began mowing in March this year with the blades at their highest setting so just taking off a small bit each mow and have done about 3-4 mows so far this year. After the second mow I used Evergreen Feed and Weed and it has greened up the lawn as well as preventing dandelions from taking hold. This is a liquid feed that you add to water and use your watering can to apply. I like it because it seems easier to apply evenly than some of the granular feeds and I've heard they can burn the grass if you're not careful. All the current rain we're having has also helped no end but I hope it stops at some stage soon so that I can get out and mow the grass!
