Laura Ashley or Colortrend paint?

Hi,

From reading the key posts on AAM I had decided that I wanted to go for Colortrend paint. It sounds like it is good quality.

I picked up a Laura Ashley colour card in Homebase - the colours are gorgeous and I was wondering does anyone know if this paint is any good?

Or should I see if Colortrend can do a colour match?

Any advice on painting in general would be welcome as I'm doing the painting myself.

There's also a recent thread on using the Dulox Paint Pod. It's expensive though!

Thanks for the super-speedy reply! Plenty of info in the key post but if anyone has any other tips keep them coming! In particular, any suggestions how to cope with painting the stairwell in the landing? I was hoping to do it with an extension pole as opposed to setting up a platform but not sure how to manage the edge where wall meets ceiling. Unless I paint the whole lot white.

I briefly toyed with the idea of the PaintPod but decided against it based on cost and the limited range of colours.

Regarding my original question about the Laura Ashley paint: I've found colours I like in the Colortrend which will do most of the house but there's a particular red I like in the Laura Ashley range. I gather it can be hard to get good coverage with red so am wondering if the brand will make any difference and if Colortrend could match the colour?

Definitely recommend Colortrend; if you have the time they have a factory shop in Celbridge and the staff are very helpful.

I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find a match for the colour you like.
 
I haven't compared the prices but I imagine Laura Ashley paint is similarly priced to Farrow & Ball which I think is superior quality. The F&B showroom is beside the Colortrend shop in Christchurch.
 
Colortrend definitely. They have a greater variety of colours than dulux etc. The paints are acrylic so lasts longer and gives a much better, professional quality finish. It costs a bit more so choose your colours carefully.

Well if I wasn't already convinced of the merits of Colortrend, I would be now!

I'm going to go to MRCB to see if they can match the Laura Ashley colour I like.

We only painted one room (Kitchen) in our new-build, and we used Colourtrend - I can't tell you how many compliments we've had... perhaps its partly to do with the colour (Gooseberry), but everyone loves it...
 
Hi all,

I thought I would open this again as opposed to starting a new thread.

I have been recomended a lot of Laura Ashley paint to match wallpaper - and I have been told that other paints will not be an exact match on a quick look it seems LA is very pricey - 69euro for 5L. What I would like to know is can I bring a sample of the colours I like to a paint shop and get an exact match in a more competitively priced paint? am I just paying for the name?

If anyone has done this, I would be delighted to hear about it.

I bought Laura Ashley paint in Homebase, they have specials on paint from time to time. However, it is not washable. So okay in a bedroom but not a sittingroom. When we wanted to repaint the sittingroom, we brought the L.A paint to colortrend in Celbridge and they were able to produce an excellent match for us.
