Did anyone else listen to the Last Word piece on stability control tonight.
(It can still be downloaded from the podcast about 5.50pm - http://audio.todayfm.com/lwpodcasting.xml) .

This revolutionary technology reduces accidents by up to 30% according to some research.
Ireland at 35% has the lowest roll out of this technology in Europe compare to 80% highest in Denmark.
Isn't it disgusting how despite lobbying by motor groups this government refused to waive VRT & VAT on car safety features. Peoples lives are surely more important than tax takings.

I have a feeling the way this country is going that its like house prices. As soon as taxes on cars are reduced the car industry will suddenly find a reason why the base cost of a car goes up and their margins will fatten .

That wouldn't happen, for the simple reason anyone can go elsewhere and buy a car.

In fact, the current imposition of VRT is such an obvious barrier to such competition and trade, it's outragous it's allowed to continue.
