Hi all,

Myself & Mrs Punter are heading to Las Vegas next week. I was wondering if is best to book tickets for some shows (stand-up, headliner, musicals) before we leave or wait and get them when we arrive.

Thanks.

If you really want to see a specific show then book in advance.
Otherwise there are special ticket booths at the top and bottom of the strip that sell discounted tickets for shows on that day.
Tickets are expensive...we paid €600 for two tickets to see Elton John. (the cheapest were €400 for 2)

Better to book online http://www.vegas.com/shows/. When we were in March the booths that sell discounted tickets for shows on a particular day had long queues outside. Plus you might not get a show that you want.

Which is why I said if you want to see a specific show book in advance...if not take your chances and get some value.

Check out www.broadwaybox.com and click on Vegas discounts. They'll give you codes to use on Ticketmaster (usually). Have used them in NYC and London, though not in Vegas yet.

Average show prices $150 full price though concert acts/big names can be pricey.

Hi Punter
My experience with LV shows is to book in advance, direct on the relevant hotel site (rather than re-sellers) if you are going weeks in advance. I see you are going next week, so I feel that the only seats available on line will be poor ones. Therefore, I would wait till I got there and go to the ticket office a day or two before the show, and you should get a seat (unless its Celine or such like) Also, early in the week (Mon Tue Wed are obviously less crowded, but some shows are 'dark' (not playing) on maybe Tuesdays.

My personal favourite show is Mystere at T.I. Hotel (former TReasure Island) This is an absolue knock-out show (a bit like a circus olympic standard gymnasts, acrobats etc) Tickets are about $95, but you will come out saying it was worth every penny. I have seen this show, with different people, 4 times and I am gob-smacked every time.

I assume you have ahotel booked, but if not I find Mirage or T.I very good especially in terms of location. Hotels at either end of the strip, say Luxor or Statosphere are just too far away from the action, and require a taxi every time you go out.

Enjoy your trip.!

Bellagio all the way !! Has anyone heard any reports on Elton John- The Red Piano?

We stayed in the Bellagio and went to see Elton John - The Red Piano!
The hotel is fantastic, try and go Olives (I think that's what it's called)
It's a restaurant in the hotel on the right hand side as you look from the lake at the front. It's fantastic.
Elton John was playing in the Colisseum which is Celine Dion's purpose built theatre in Caesars Palace when we saw him. Tickets ranged from $200 up.
We went for ones for about $300, might have been $350. Anyways we were near the front and ended up on stage with about 25 others at the end around EJ and his piano while he played "Saturday Nights All Right for Fighting"!
You'll love the Bellagio...awesome.

Wow....the Bellagio is fantastic. I've never stayed there, but the Casino and the Lobby give a flavour of what the rest of the place is like. Brilliant!

Must disagree about Mystere. I fell asleep during that, and Ka (another Cirque show). One of the most spectacular at the moment is Phantom in the Venetian. The purpose-built theatre makes it even more amazing.

Just to fill y'all in on the shows we attended while in Vegas.

Cirque du Solais "O" at Bellagio was brilliant. Well worth seeing. We booked the tickets a week in advance prior to leaving Ireland. It was a sell out.

Rat Pack show. Also worthwhile if you like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr. The venue was not great, a bit run down. Got our tickets on the day.

Phantom of the Opera. Excellent. Purpose built theater looked cool. Bought our tickets the day before, plenty available.
