Laptop Virus (7zip?) - Can't download updates

Hi All,

I've got some sort of virus on my sony vaio laptop - I can't download any program updates or new programs that I know to be safe such as chrome extensions.
Instead of starting the download in a normal way I am taken to a page for 'free unzip software|7Zip'

which is an address I do not recognise and software I have not installed.

I've done countless scans and deelted and uninstalled many non-essential programs and files, to no avail.

Anyone recognise this 7zip trojan and know how to get rid?

Try dowloading malware antimalware - the virus may not let you so put it on a disc from another computer and run it. It is usually good for getting rid of these things.

Been there too many times.
Best solution for me was to reinstall the operating system.
Your old data is kept in directory

Thanks for the input all! Just want to point out that there is a valid '7ZIP' website, the one plaguing my PC is a fake.

Have tried safe mode and running malware - didn't help :-(

Will try running malware from memory stick, and other suggestions above, will keep you posted.

Often the quickest solution is drop it into a PC repair shop. Probably charge you €50

I wonder have you changed the associations within the browser.

Do you have the same problem with all browsers, Chrome, IE Firefox Opera?
