Laptop from the U.S.

I am travelling to the US in a few weeks.....I need to purchase a laptop in general and was wondering if anyone would or would not recommend me purchasing one over there???

Pros....cheaper
Cons....compatibility????....warranty????

Should be able to get an international warranty.

Make sure the power supply will work on both 110 and 220 volts. In fairness most will but don't assume it will.

Bring over one of those dell things that are always in the news paper so you can compare like for like.

If you do get one. Make sure to handy carry it home in a laptop bag.

Cons:

Getting hit for duty/vat at the airport on the way home or confiscation of the machine.

Unlikely but it has happened.

Very unlikely. Haven't heard one such tale. The laptop will be well out of its packaging and tucked neatly into its carrycase in the airport.

Happened a friend of mine with a high performance digital SLR camera but in fairness it was in its box with manuals and warranties stamped in Dubai.
