hi,

I got a replacement battery 3 months ago for a 3 year old Dell laptop. its working ok, its just that after about 45 minutes the battery needs recharging so generally its plugged in most of the time.

do laptop batteries in general only function for about one hour before they need recharging?

Hi,

Battery for a laptop under normal use should last at least 4 hours (varies depending on the battery). Do you know how many cells the battery has? 45 mins is very low... check the battery connections & connection to the laptop - make sure they are clean. Does the battery get very hot when the laptop is on?

Where did you purchase it from? I got a new one from eBay a couple of months back and it didn't last long.

Better off going through a proper shop so you have some kind of comeback on it.

Steiner, have you made sure that when you are running the laptop on battery mode you have reduced the brightness of scree and keys right down? They drain battery. Also, if wireless is running it eats the battery too, as does having too many programmes open. Only use what you really need to.

You can buy extended life batteries for Dells (some of us use them in work) which increase life of the battery.

I got it from uk based company, Dell were looking for 130 euro or so.

ok, I will adjust these. I think the battery is just cheap and probably the official Dell one at a price of about 130 euro would be the solution.

I recently bought a Dell battery for my bro on Ebay. I think the total price was about €50 odd . It was bigger than the original battery and made the laptop heavier, but all in all, I think it was a good deal. If you want the link to the ebayer I could probably find it.
