Landscape gardener quotes?

Hi,
Just wondering has anyone ever had any work done by a landscape gardener?

I'm looking to get a patio(10ft x 10ft) done with stepping stones(3) leading up to it, a tree planted, few shrubs, plants, climbers for the back wall, but nothing too substantial or high maintenance.

I have a guy coming out at the weekend to give me a free quote, but what price range should I be looking at roughly?

Would it be cheaper to buy the stuff myself and get someone to then build/plant?

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Cheers!

Received a quote at the weekend for this job.
Basically building a patio (with natural stone) 5m x 5m
A few raised flower beds (flowers included )
Bamboo type shoots to hide concrete wall (€80 x 3m)
Plant a tree in front garden
Move shed.

€5k-€6k price!!
Think I'll get someone to do the patio and do the rest myself.

I noticed that are now selling patio paving sets for circa €500.00. Have a look under garden accessories. I wonder how these compare to buying paving from the likes of Roadstone? Is the cost / quality comparable?

I looked at the attached link and could not see any reference to paving, can you point me in the right direction/link.

Hi Marty! No reason not to do it yourself. However the overall design and planning and subsequent laying of paving-slabs is quite specialist - 'quick-fix' gardening make-overs notwithstanding! I suggest you spend time and energy on thinking about all aspects of the overall design before buying the slabs and get a guide from the library before starting the physical work.

You will need to dig out a basic foundation and fill it with hardcore and top it with sand before you lay the slabs. Otherwise you will have problems with slabs sinking and drainage (rainwater will run off and you will have a bog at the end of the patio.
Are you having walls built for the raised beds?
If the materials are included then €5k - €6k might not be OTT. Ask for a breakdown of the costs.

ive worked with landscapers in the past-its usually always cheaper to but your own plants-ask the guys in a DIY/Home store suitability etc questions, buy a spade and away you go.....works out aloy cheaper.

good luck
