Landlord details in Part 8 of Rent Allowance Form

A person I know wants to live with me in my own house as a lodger for a few months (I am not in a relationship with the person). The person wants to claim rent allowance. I have no problem with this in principle. I have checked the Department of Social Protection rent allowance form (SWA RS1) and have a few questions.

Is the same form used whether the person is a tenant taking a lease on a property for their own use or is a person sharing a house?

Part 8 of the form requests details of other residents, including the PPS number and weekly gross income. I like to keep my financial details private if at all possible. I understand that I can give some details separately (section 13 and above) but is there some way I can not earnings information into the form?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've never heard of this. Can you scan the form. I've had to fill out forms for tenant's as a landlord but was never asked for details like that, but then again, I'm not living in the property and no other tenant would be.

You do not need to provide income details for your tenant in this situation.

The information on part 8 of the form is targeted towards persons who might have a liability towards the rent - for example an adult son or daughter living with a parent would be expected to contribute towards the rent, so if the parent applies for rent supplement, the son/daughter's income details would be pertinent to the claim.

Hi gipimann,

Thanks for the reply. I will leave Section 8 blank. Is there any way that I can confirm that although we are in the same accomodation I am not a person who might have a liability towards my lodger's rent? Would a cover letter be appropriate in this case?

Thanks.

You will be the declaring yourself as the landlord so that should suffice as a disclaimer.

You may be asked as landlord to supply proof of ownership of the property, so that should also confirm that the income information on part 8 of the form doesn't apply to you.
