Can you use floor varnish over laminate flooring?
I would like to change colour of original cheap laminate in one room only, and I thought a coloured floor varnish might do the job.

laminate flooring and floor varnish

When you say laminate, is this a purely synthetic material or is the top 1-2mm actual wood. If latter is case I would have thought that you could varnish with floor varnish, provided you give it a light sanding

Over a year later I guess they have this one sorted by now.

Flooring with a real wood top layer as you describe would be called semi-solid or engineered.

You beat me to it, Leo. Semi solid floors have a top layer of real wood which can be sanded and varnished. You'd probably be able to do it twice over the lifetime of the floor. But laminate cannot be sanded or varnished.

For those starting from scratch, you can get some laminates that are incredibly hard wearing. I've used B&Q's AquaLoc in the past. It's a bit of a pain to lay but it looks great and wears very well!
