I am looking at this area for a break. Thinking of the French side of the lake. Mainly because it is in the Eurozone area. Anyone ever stay in Yvoire or Thonon or Evian? Or a nice town on the Swiss side?

On the Swiss side, you might want to look at the area around Les Diablerets. There are lots of nice little train rides you can take up into the mountains to do some walking, take in the views etc...

It is very easy to get to from Geneva airport - check out the trains at the SBB site.

The Auberge de la Poste is a very reasonable priced place to stay, should you decide to go there.

On the Swiss side you have beautiful places like (pearl of the Swiss Riviera) and Montreux (famous for the annual Jazz festival).

If you plan to stay on this side of the border, you are also not far from the village of [broken link removed] (home of one of the most famous Swiss cheeses). The castle and village are lovely and, of course, you can't go there without having fondue and/or raclette and a glass of Swiss wine. ;)
